Mentora works with a variety of industries and verticals including healthcare.  This important update is critical for our blog readers who are affected by the upcoming conversion from ICD-9 to ICD-10 diagnostic codes.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced it intends to delay implementation of the highly anticipated ICD-10 code set beyond the October 1, 2013 deadline.  However, the agency did not specify exactly how long the delay would occur.

Industry analysts agree: the delay doesn’t mean healthcare companies should abandon plans to prepare for the transition. With most organizations having more than 20 affected applications, there are many system upgrades and replacements underway, which drive a heightened need for performance testing services.

End-to-end performance testing should be performed in the following areas in which ICD-10 codes are used by both payers and providers, among others

  • Healthcare claims adjudication
  • Medical and case management
  • Enrollment
  • Billing (member or payer)
  • Provider payment

When to Start

Testing should already be underway to meet interim milestones and to prepare for the next major steps.  Many plans and providers have established an implementation committee that will stay together even after go live to deal with problems that arise.  The functional and performance testing resources must remain engaged for the duration.
